Looking for a relaxing activity for the whole family? Dust off your boots and put on your cowboy hat for a trail ride by horseback. Hilton Head Island offers some fantastic horseback riding at Lawton Stables, located on the island. Trail rides by horse are one of the best ways to get a tour and true feeling of the lowcountry. Meander through the islands natural setting on the trails through forests and lakes. If you have younger children, pony rides are also available to children 7 and under. Lawton Stables also has an animal farm that the kiddos will enjoy seeing the small animals that they can also feed.
Trail Rides:
One-hour guided western-style trail rides will take you into the 600+ acre Sea Pines Forest Preserve where you will experience a true feel of the untouched lowcountry on horseback, beneath a canopy of Palmettos and moss covered oaks. The pace on the ride is kept at a walk so that riders of all abilities can settle in comfortably and take in the beautiful, tranquil surroundings. Be sure to make a reservation.

Pony Rides:
The friendly Shetland Ponies are available for small children (7 years old or younger) between the hours of 9:00-4:00 daily (9:00-5:00 during the summer months). Pony rides are two laps around the animal farm led by a staff member. No reservations are necessary. Pony riders must be at least 18 months old and able to sit up on their own.
Animal Farm
There is a sweet collection of small animals such as goats, sheep, miniature donkeys, miniature cows, pot-bellied pigs, alpacas, shetland ponies and chickens. You can even purchase food to feed the small animals. For 50 cents a handful children can experience feeding the little ones.
