Visit the Harbour Lighthouse on Hilton HeadI!

April 9, 2018

At the far eastern tip of Hilton Head Island lies a little piece of history called, The Harbour Town Lighthouse.  Located at the Harbour Town Marina on 149 Lighthouse Road in Hilton Head Island.

The Harbour lighthouse boasts a cute charm to the island.  After climbing about 115 stairs to the top, embrace for beautiful ocean views of the harbor and marina below.  I've been to my fair share of lighthouses and while they all seem to offer a unique landmark to visitors, the Harbour Lighthouse feels more kid and family friendly than most I've seen mainly because of it's accessibility.   Climbing the stairs feels more like 'household stairs' where there is a landing every few steps, versus climbing straight up or circular to the top like other light houses.  On each landing there is a plaque that talks about a different period in South Carolina’s history.   Once at the top, there is more to see and learn with a small museum feel.  Bonus is the cute gift shop at the top (and bottom!) of the lighthouse to bring home unique Hilton Head Island souvenirs.  There is also a lovely sandy beach area outside where kids and adults can look and collect shells.

The Harbour Lighthouse is at the top of my list for taking family and visitors to Hilton Head Island.  The experience is self driven at each own’s pace and offers rich history at an affordable price of less than $5.00 per person.  Enjoy the calm, beautiful, historic charm of this Hilton Head Island landmark.
